“Tsia̍h-pá-buē?” is the most commonly used greeting in Kaohsiung, which literally means “Have you eaten yet?” to expresses the locals’ warm concern. Each year, GISUP attracts scores of scholars to share new findings of their research, and in 2015, this remarkable event will be held in Formosa, which is also known as Taiwan.

It is of my immense pleasure to introduce the beauty as well as the hospitality of Kaohsiung to all the participants in GISUP 2015. As the second biggest city of Taiwan, this harbor city features its great cultural diversity and rich history. Besides, please don’t miss traditional Taiwanese snacks at night market; the foods there are sure to satisfy a gourmet’s craving for delicacy.

Kaohsiung is still a rather young city, and its face keeps changing. How to strike a balance between history and modern development remains a challenge for the government and citizens. With my greatest sincere, I hope GISUP 2015, Kaohsiung, would get you inspired and bring you a whole new perspective on a city.
