Welcome to GISUP 2018
(2016 Joint International Symposium of GISUP – KOGSIS)

Prof. Yang

Dear Committees,

Annyeong-haseyo!

On behalf of the organizing committee, it gives us a great pleasure to extend warm invitation to you all for the 18th GISUP 2016 International (2016 Joint Internatinal Symposium of GISUP-KOGSIS) to be held from 18 to 20 February, 2016 in Kangwon National University located in Chuncheon, Republic of Korea.

GISUP International is an annual symposium started since 1999 in collaboration of universities between Korea and Japan. Since last year, Taiwan also joined the symposium and made it more global. From this year universities from USA and China will also join the symposium. Moreover, this year the symposium is a joint collaboration effort with Korean Society for Geospatial Information Sciences (KOGSIS). The symposium aims to bring the scientists working in the field onto a common platform and promote and advance the exciting and rapidly changing field of geospatial and urban planning technologies and applications.

KOGSIS founded in 1993, is a non-profit professional umbrella organization incorporated to serve the members working in various fields of geo-information and spatial information science in Korea. It promotes the geospatial profession by providing quality of service to the public through conducting research and development, educational training and technical assistance to governmental and public projects. The society also provides a forum for scholarly exchanges at both national and international level throughout the year.

Chuncheon was chosen to host city for the symposium this year. This city, the provincial capital city of Gangwon-do, is a popular tourist destination located in close proximity to Seoul. It is a city with lakes, rivers and surrounding hills. It offers many festivals, river side aquatic sports and activities. Famous foods in Chuncheon include Makguksu and Dakgalbi.

We believe that this symposium will offer be a platform to share knowledge and experience among scholars. Moreover, it will be an excellent opportunity to visit Korea and experience Korean traditional culture at first hand.

We look forward to meeting you for a great experience in Korea.

General Chair-Organizing Committee,
Prof. In-Tae Yang, Ph.D.
